Successor to the original Sony Playstation, the PS2 was released in march on 1999 to become the best selling games console to this day. More then your average games console, the Playstation 2 also plays DVD's and can be fitted with a Hard Drive for storage expansion. Best of all, there is a massive range of Playstation 2 Games that can be found for just a few dollars, both in gaming stores, and online.

Controlled by the 'Dual Shock' 2 Controller, and backwards compatible with most original Playstation 1 games (check here for compatibility) , this beast of a console became quickly popular. Sony repeatedly modified the casing and inner architecture, later releasing a 'slim-line' version which was almost half the size.

If you're thinking of buying this 'older' console, you can't go wrong. They can be picked up for as cheap as $40, including controllers and cables. For a bit more, $50 - $90 will get you both the console, and a bunch of games. Heaps of sellers are happy to sell their PS2 when they upgrade to the Playstation 3.
